  • Max Williams: A senior. The first out transgender boy at Peace Lily Preparatory School. Kind of a nerd. 18; Vocal Range: F3-D5

    Carmen Delapio: A senior. A burnt-out butch girl at Peace Lily. 18; Vocal Range: G3-E5

    Suki Machi: A senior. A boy(and girl)- crazy girl at Peace
    Lily. Tries not to take anything too seriously. 18; Vocal Range: B3-C5

    Anna Morel: A senior. The golden child of Peace Lily; a legacy student going back generations. The retreat leader for MAX, SUKI, and CARMEN. 18; Vocal Range: A3-F5

    Devon Matthis: A senior. The class clown of St. Andrew’s, Peace Lily’s brother school. A well-liked semi-closeted boy. 18

    Dean Aymard: The Dean of Students in charge of the senior retreat and graduation planning. An ex-nun and founder of the school. Adult; Vocal Range: F3-B4

    Peace Lily Girls/St. A's Boys: The rest of the students at the two schools attending this retreat. Played by the same 5 ensemble actors of all genders. 18

  • Margaret Anne Bulkley: a curious science minded girl who aches to escape the dreary life her gender dictates she live. Lyric soprano, high belt.16-Adult; Vocal Range: F3-F5

    Young Margaret: Pre-Teen; Vocal Range: B3-E5

    Seamus Bulkley: Margaret's brother, who is afforded the privileges of being a man in 19th Century Ireland, even if he doesn't want them or deserve them. 20s

    Young Seamus: Pre-Teen

    Jeremiah Bulkley: Margaret's father who believes a woman's place is in the home, and will do whatever is required to keep his woman in his home. Vocal range flexible. 40s

    Kathleen Bulkley: Margaret's mother who dreams of a better life for her daughter, even if she'll never have a better life for herself. She suffers at the hands (quite literally) of the patriarchy. Mezzo-soprano or alto. 30s

    Dr. Philip Barry: Margaret's Uncle, who takes Margaret in as a servant, and helps her get admitted to medical school "in disguise.” Lyric baritone. 40s; Vocal Range: B2-E4

    Charles Somerset: a fellow medical student and Margaret's "mate" for life. Lyric tenor.20s-30s; Vocal Range: D3-Ab4

  • Nadia: Fifteen, female. Suffers from narcolepsy, which most often manifests as vivid dreams that she mistakes for reality. Typical high school girl with high school problems–minus the fact that her best friend only exists inside of mirrors. Female. Alto. 15

    Dar: Nadia’s best friend, who happens to live in her mirror. In the Dream World, Dar also exits the mirror and joins the Starlight Chorus. Female or non-binary. Soprano. 15

    Mom: Nadia’s mother. Female. Alto. 30s-40s

    Mama D: Nadia’s grandmother–her father’s mother. MOM and Nadia’s father never married, and Nadia’s father is no longer in the picture. Though unrelated to MOM, Mama D lives with Mom and Nadia. Female. Alto. 60s+

    Dr. Scotty: The family therapist. Any gender. No solo singing, but should also be part of the Starlight Chorus. 30s+

    Sara: A girl at Nadia’s school. Soprano. 15

    Econ Teacher: The economics teacher. Doesn’t need to know much about econ, but does need to be able to sing their face off. Any gender. 30s+

    Starlight Chorus: 6+members; most frequently found singing backup in Nadia’s dreams, but they also double as teachers and students at Nadia’s school. Any/all genders. All Ages

  • Kelsey: a bright young girl, passionate, innocent, sensitive and bubbly. She has a love for bugs that no one can waiver. She loves spending her time in the sun frolicking, and learning about insects with her mom.Female 14-19

    Young Kelsey: The younger version of Kelsey appearing throughout the show. Manifestation of her innocence and childhood.Female 10-12

    Chloe: Strong female, Kelsey’s friend from childhood. Rough around the edges. She has been dealt a tough hand in life, and puts up a front to hide her pain. Chloe has a complicated home life and tries her best to hide the pain. She is a different take on a classic mean girl. Chloe is cold but would do anything for the people she loved.Female 15-19

    Sharon: Kelsey’s mother. She is an entomologist, whom Kelsey looks up to. Sharon cares about nothing more than the health and safety of Kelsey. She is kind hearted but strong willed and protects Kelsey with everything she has. She is intelligent, logical, loving and caring.Female late 20s-mid 40s

    Avery: Kelsey’s father, caring and loyal figure to Kelsey. He is a grounding presence in the family's lives and just wants to make the women in his life happy. He is where Kelsey gets her inspiration for her joyous demeanor and his favorite thing to do is hiking.Male late 20s-mid 40s

    Jack: Crazy party guy. The IT boy of the school. Chloe’s love interest. Kind of an airhead but in a fun and charming way. Nonchalant, cool, and spacey.Male 15-19

    Grace: Chloe’s best friend, one of the leaders of the friend group, very “cool” and has an apathetic view toward the world. She is distant and detached but still appreciates her friends.Female 15-17

    Greg: Chloe’s father. Very volatile toward Chloe and her brother Georgie. He is unstable, aggressive and hostile.Male late 30s-50s

    Georgie: Chloe’s little brother. Sweet little kid. Quiet and gentle being. He loves dinosaurs and Chloe, but longs for more relationships with Greg.Male 10-12

    Mr. Douglas: Kelsey’s teacher for Entomology 1. He is excited, sporadic and enthusiastic. He is a fun teacher and loves his studentsMale 25-40

    Emma S, Emma R, Emma P: The trio. They are in the popular girl friend group and are very sassy. They look down upon Kelsey’s personality and clothing choices and love to make it known.Females 15-19

    Ensemble: Characters of various ages spanning from 14-40s. These characters include Nurse, Teacher, Jake, Carter, Student #1, Student #2, and Mrs Thompson. Ages 14-40s

    MATTHEW (he/him) – cis man or masc-identifying person to play 24-25, any race, tenor/baritone (A2-A4); MATTHEW is on the autism spectrum* and lives with his mother and stepfather. He carries a small notebook, and loves infinity, math, blackholes, and planets after Jupiter. He would identify as a cis man in modern context. He ultimately comes into his own as an independent young man.
    *the part of MATTHEW must be played by an actor who is openly neurodivergent, ideally on the autism spectrum


    BETH (she/her) – cis woman to play 45-65, white, soprano (A3-F#5); MATTHEW’s mother. She married GEORGE about a year ago. She’s patient, pious, loves to clean, and is an anxious mess. She comes to realize MATTHEW is an adult who can handle things his own way. Named after Beth Chatto, a plantswoman.


    GEORGE (he/him) — cis man to play 45-65, any race, baritone (A2-E4); MATTHEW’s stepfather. He works in LoDo as an advertising consultant. Being newly married, he does his best to sympathize with BETH and MATTHEW, even if he doesn’t “get” MATTHEW. He realizes that he does. Named after George Stephenson, a railroad conductor.

    April (18 to play 15, latine woman); April is a brave and spirited teenager facing the challenges of returning to high school after a life-threatening cancer diagnosis. She is vulnerable but tries to maintain a facade of strength. April's journey is central to the story as she navigates friendships, family dynamics, and the complexities of trust. Strong musical theatre mix voice with a strong belt.

    Alex (15, all ethnicities woman): April's childhood best friend who feels abandoned after April's diagnosis. A spunky musician who speaks her mind. Alex struggles to reconnect with April and is hurt by the distance that has grown between them. Folksy, singer-songwriter vocal style.

    BETH (f or nb, 16): Stubborn, defensive, outgoing. Generally distrustful of others but gets attached to anyone who is willing to listen to her. Sticks with what she knows and hates change. Can be prone to being depressed. Likes musicals. (Pop/Rock Mezzo Soprano)

    CASS (f or nb, 15): Blunt, sarcastic, nihilistic. Can be sad, but doesn’t always get sad because most of her negative emotions manifest in anger. Keeps her emotions to herself, but deep down she wants to open up to others without fear. Doesn’t like musicals with a few exceptions. (Alto).

    JULIA (f or nb, 14): Down-to-earth, unconfident, a lovable klutz. Attaches herself to what she oves. Assumes that she is wrong about most things and that other peoples’ opinions are more important than hers. Very sensitive to others and the general world around her. Loves musicals.

    DANA (f or nb, mid-late 20s): Outgoing, bubbly, kind. Has an overly positive personality that you either love or hate. Doesn’t always trust her judgment even when she’s right. Tries to center other people when they are having problems, but sometimes at her own expense. Likes musicals.

    ROY (m, early-mid 30s): Straightforward, strict, eager to help. A Marines dropout and a firm believer that going out of your comfort zone will fix most of your problems. Has a definite sense of right and wrong. Thinks he hates musicals but he’s only seen Mamma Mia! (Baritenor)
